A Celebration at Home: Nicci and Aynsley Silva

This journal entry is part of a series highlighting the stories behind the images featured on my website banner—a collection of moments that define my journey as a wedding photographer in the Pacific Northwest. Capturing Nicci and Aynsley Silva's wedding was one of those moments where everything felt deeply personal and meaningful. Their ceremony wasn’t just a celebration of their love but a testament to the power of family, community, and the beauty of an intimate backyard setting.

The image I’ve chosen to represent their story radiates love, care, and connection. It captures Nicci, Aynsley, and their bridal party under a canopy of lush green leaves, framed by rustic birdcage decorations. You can see the joyful energy of their loved ones and the vibrant jewel-toned dresses that complemented the natural surroundings. This setting, a lovingly prepared family backyard in Vancouver, Washington, is a perfect example of how personal and heartfelt a backyard wedding can be.

A Homegrown Love Story

Nicci and Aynsley’s wedding took place in the backyard of a family home—a space lovingly prepared to match the charm and character of their day. I had the privilege of getting to know them over time, which made this session even more meaningful. My journey with them began when Aynsley reached out for me to document their surprise proposal. From that moment, I felt a deep connection to their story, which made photographing their wedding an honor.

The backyard location was stunning, with landscaping that exuded a sense of warmth and intimacy. The care poured into every detail of the space was a perfect reflection of Nicci and Aynsley’s personalities: thoughtful, vibrant, and full of heart.

Planning the Day

As their wedding day approached, we worked closely to ensure every aspect of the photography complemented their vision. Their jewel-toned décor provided a rich, classy color palette that inspired my framing and editing choices. The vibrant reds, deep greens, and gold accents added a timeless elegance, while the natural light on that perfect Vancouver day brought the entire setting to life.

Technical Choices and Gear

For this session, I relied on my Sony a7 II paired with my 85mm f/1.4 and 35mm lenses. The 85mm lens was essential for capturing emotional close-ups during the ceremony and portraits, while the 35mm allowed me to incorporate the beautifully landscaped surroundings into the shots. The combination of these lenses created images that felt both intimate and grand, with the backyard setting seamlessly blending into the narrative.

Nicci and Aynsley’s wedding was a milestone for me in many ways. It was the first time I truly saw the power of connections in the wedding industry—this booking came through a chain of recommendations that reinforced the importance of building relationships in this field. It was also a reminder that no matter how much planning goes into a day, growth comes from navigating the unexpected. Each wedding brings its lessons, and this one taught me to embrace those moments as part of the journey.

This journal entry, like Nicci and Aynsley’s wedding day, is a celebration of love, family, and community. Their backyard venue in Vancouver, Washington, stood out with its vibrant jewel-toned décor, charming floral arrangements, and a touch of natural elegance that made every moment feel intimate and warm. If you’re planning your wedding in Vancouver, Washington, or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, I’d love to help you tell your love story through timeless, authentic images.
