Big News: I’m Moving!
Big life changes don’t happen often,
but when they do, they bring a mix of excitement, reflection, and opportunity. I’m thrilled to share the details of my upcoming move to Denver, Colorado—what’s inspiring this change, who’s joining me on this journey, and how it will shape my personal and professional future.
Why the Move?
So, what’s behind this decision, and why Denver specifically?
This move is about multiple things coming together all at once. It’s a chance to take a significant step forward in my photography journey, to build a home with my amazing girlfriend and our dog, and to explore a new city that aligns with our ambitions.
Colorado—and specifically Denver—offered the perfect combination of career opportunities, outdoor activities, and a change of pace from where we live now, in Portland, Oregon. The region provides the opposite climate and landscape, which feels like a fresh start, while still maintaining values and a community spirit reminiscent of Portland’s.
As a wedding photographer, Denver’s diverse terrain and vibrant culture open up incredible creative possibilities. I’ve admired the work coming out of Colorado for years—its combination of Rocky Mountain majesty and urban charm is truly inspiring. I believe this move will allow me to capture a new range of human experiences while continuing to grow my career.
Starting My MFA in Photography
A major part of this decision is my next big step in education: pursuing my master’s degree in photography. This has been a long-time goal of mine, and I’m excited to immerse myself in this program while still maintaining the flexibility to work as a wedding photographer.
The MFA program is asynchronous, allowing me the freedom to travel and continue working with couples while I deepen my craft and explore the academic side of photography. My ultimate ambition is to become a professor, sharing knowledge and mentoring the next generation of photographers. This feels like the natural evolution of my career—a way to balance my love for wedding photography with a role in education and artistic development.
A Family Adventure
This move isn’t just about me. I’m bringing along my incredible girlfriend and our dog, and together we’re looking forward to building a life in Denver.
For years, we’ve been dreaming of a space where we could settle in, get out of apartment living, and give our dog the joy of a yard to play in. This move is about creating a home where we can all thrive, surrounded by new opportunities, people, and places to explore.
It’s a chance to balance my professional drive with the personal ambition of building a life filled with connection, adventure, and space to grow
On My Way: Denver Bound
In the months leading up to this move, I’ll be sharing updates and experiences through a personal project called On My Way: Denver Bound. This project will document the transition and include photoshoots, guides, videos, and more as I prepare to establish myself in a new city.
This move is more than just a physical relocation—it’s a thoughtful and intentional step into a new chapter. I want to share the journey as it unfolds, creating resources and art that reflect the excitement of this change.
Saying Goodbye to Portland
Portland has been a huge part of my story, and this decision to leave comes with a lot of reflection.
When I first left Portland in 2017, I spent time on the East Coast with family, which was a rare and special opportunity in my 30s. Returning to Portland in 2022 for a specific project with a café brought me back for a time, but now that the project is coming to a close, I feel like it’s the right moment to move forward.
Unlike the first time I left Portland, this move doesn’t feel bittersweet. Instead of leaving because I have to, I’m choosing to go somewhere new. There’s so much joy in this decision—in the possibilities ahead and the adventures waiting for us in Denver.
This moment reminds me of when I first left for Portland years ago: filled with hope, excitement, and curiosity for what’s to come.
Looking Ahead
Denver represents a fresh start and a continuation of everything I love—photography, connection, adventure, and growth. I’m excited to keep sharing my journey with you, whether through weddings, my MFA work, or personal projects.
Here’s to the next chapter!
